Stopping smoking is not easy as you will probably know if you have tried to quit cigarette smoking before. Firstly you must make a positive decision to quit. Smoking increases a person's risk of other forms of cancer, too, including uterine cancer, pancreatic cancer, and cancers of the mouth and lips. Virtually any form of cancer can be linked with bringing tobacco smoke into the system through the lungs.
Fix a date for quitting. Try and choose a date when you have plenty of work to do, so you are busy on that day so you cannot think of smoking easily. Be stress free to avoid smoking. Making a list of the reasons why you want to quit cigarette smoking will help you. Think of the effect that smoking is having on your health, think of the inconvenience of having to go outside or into another part of the house just to have a cigarette.
Take your doctor advice. It is important if you have health problems or are concerned about issues such as weight gain. If you have any friend who is also trying to quit cigarette smoking then try to do it together. Don't make it a competition but rather be there for each other for help and support.
Think about starting an exercise program and a sensible eating plan. Again speak to your doctor or dietician. Exercise will give you more energy and help you to relax and relieve stress. When you feel the urge to smoke do something to take your mind off of the craving. Try chewing gum or nibble on some nuts or healthy snacks and also drink plenty of water and fruit juice.
Be positive and confident you can quit. You have spent time and energy planning how you will deal with the task ahead. Try to quit smoking when you know you will not be put under stress. Pick a week to start when you are on vacation or are going to be at home in a relaxed atmosphere.
