Cigarette Smoking and its Harmful Affects
Many studies have proved that smoking after pregnancy is just as harmful to kids as is smoking during pregnancy.
Results from a study showed that long-term smoke exposure in the womb and after birth increases the risk of airway disorders in a child's first10 years. One-third of the children were at "high risk" for allergies. Researchers studied what effect tobacco exposure had on children in the womb as well as after birth. They looked for these airway disorders: allergic sensitization to inhalant allergens (like pollen), allergic rhinitis, wheezing and respiratory infections.
Further tobacco smoking is also responsible for a number of cancers. It increases the blood pressure of the smoker and also puts pressure on the heart. It is one of the main reasons of heart attacks and strokes. It slows downs the blood flow, cutting off oxygen to the feet and the hands. Some smokers end up even having their limbs amputated.
Lung cancer from smoking is caused by the tar in tobacco smoke. Men who smoke are ten time more likely to die from lung cancer than non smokers. Further Heart diseases and strokes are a common story among smokers than non-smokers.
Among the younger people, three out of four deaths from heart diseases are due to smoking.
A cigarette although small and tiny which may seemingly be harmless actually causes much damage to the smoker and to surrounding non-smokers as well which majority of the times is irreversible. Smokers need to restudy their priorities and act responsibly and quit smoking or shift over to alternatives.
